Freshwater supply a range of replacement toilet parts and sink parts include the taps, sink P-trap, drain assembly (strainer, flange, plug), faucet parts (cartridges, aerators, handles), and water supply lines. Toilet fill valve, flush valve, flapper (or seal), and toilet handle/button; often, a universal repair kit containing the primary internal components can be a good solution.

Common Toilet Parts and Replacements:

Common Replacement Parts and Functions Identifying the specific part that is failing will help you purchase the correct replacement. The most frequent issues relate to the internal tank mechanisms.

  • Fill Valve: This component controls the flow of water into the tank and bowl after a flush and shuts off the water supply once the tank is full. Signs of failure include the tank not filling, a hissing sound, or the tank overflowing.
  • Flush Valve & Flapper (or Seal): The flush valve mechanism, often including a rubber flapper or a seal on a modern tower-style valve, releases the water from the tank into the bowl when the toilet is flushed. A worn flapper or leaking seal commonly causes a constantly running toilet (ghost flushing).
  • Toilet Handle/Button: The lever or push button that activates the flush mechanism. If the handle is loose or the chain is broken, it may not be able to lift the flapper or activate the flush valve properly.
  • Tank-to-Bowl Gasket & Bolts: A large rubber or foam washer and a set of bolts that seal the connection between the toilet tank and the bowl. Leaks between the tank and bowl indicate that this gasket and the accompanying bolts likely need replacement.
  • Wax Ring: This is a seal located at the base of the toilet, where it connects to the floor drain. A foul smell or water pooling around the base of the toilet indicates a bad wax ring, which is a more involved repair requiring the removal of the entire toilet.

Common Sink Parts and Replacements:

  • P-Trap/Trap Assembly: This is the curved (U-shaped or P-shaped) pipe under the sink that holds a small amount of water to prevent sewer gases from entering your home. Complete kits are available to replace the entire assembly.
  • Drain Assembly (Waste Kit): This multi-piece system is located in the sink basin and includes several components:
    • Strainer Basket/Plug Stopper: Removable part in the drain opening to catch debris or stop water flow. Universal replacements are available.
    • Drain Flange: The metal ring that sits flush with the sink bottom and creates a seal.
    • Tailpiece: The straight pipe connecting the drain body to the P-trap.
    • Overflow Kit: For sinks with an overflow hole, this kit includes a connection pipe and cover plate.
  • Faucet Components: If your faucet is leaking or broken, you may only need to replace internal parts:
    • Cartridge/Valve: Controls the flow and temperature of water. Single-handle faucets use a ceramic disk cartridge, while dual-handle taps use either quarter-turn or wind-down valves.
    • Aerator: A small mesh screen at the tip of the spout that regulates water flow.
    • Handles/Levers: Controls for the water supply.
  • Water Supply Lines: Flexible braided metal lines that connect the shut-off valves to the faucet.
  • Gaskets and Washers: Rubber seals used throughout the plumbing connections to prevent leaks.
